Second blog

I have found in my classrooms I have been in the teachers have focussed too much on content and not enough on the relationship aspect of learning. It is hard to learn from someone you don’t feel comfortable with. We need to allow students and teachers to also interact. In this reading it said curriculum is like a recipe, I really found this interesting because with a recipe things can be changed, substituted at any time and so can teaching. Teachers need to be able to work on their feet and if somethings not working with their teaching they need to adapt quick with a back up plan. Curriculum also needs to not just be about teaching it needs to be about learning too. Just because a child is listening to what is being taught does not mean the student can apply it or do it themselves. This article made me understand that education is beyond the curriculum and what goes on in the classroom can be changeable.

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog post, Chandra. I can agree with you when you state, ” education is beyond the curriculum and what goes on in the classroom can be changeable.” I also could agree with the recipe example. Looking at this aspect like a recipe, it also allows teachers to do so the same.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Chandra! I agree that some teachers focus too much on content rather than those student-teacher relationships. Creating that bond with your teachers is super important! If you grew up in a small town, did you form those relationships with your teacher, and do you think it’s easier to create strong bonds in a smaller community rather than the city? It is really important for us, as future educators, to remember that the curriculum is changeable and going above and beyond can be positive for all learners and teachers!

    1. I grew up in the city, I find when classrooms have 25-35 students it is way too much and the students do not get as much one on one with the teacher like they should. I usually struggled to have strong bonds with my teachers because of how big the class was.

  3. Hey Chandra,

I also agree with the learning experience within the classroom needing to change from a content/product based and unequal relationship environment. I had the greatest experiences and learning opportunities within my high school years with teachers that I had formed some sort of relationship with. I also believe that the effort students put into the work produced (assignment or test) should be accounted for when making assessments.
Do you have thoughts of how you would arrange your future classroom?
